Spring has Sprung!

Ah, spring. I don’t think there is a more welcome season as spring – it’s a season of profound change – warmth, growth, birth and promise. No wonder the Greeks had the myth of Persephone and spring! As Ellis Peters said, “Every spring is the only spring – a perpetual astonishment.” That’s how I feel about it, I walk to the train station every morning, clocking which trees are still with fat buds versus those whose leaves are small, bright and new. There are some fruit trees I walk past that are dusting the sidewalk with a fragrant snow and the promise of summer fruit.

This past weekend, the sun came out and so did I. I emerged like a bear coming out of hibernation to document the beauty of spring. It was so warm I didn’t even need a jacket, just a hoodie. The only problem with the return of sunshine and daylight is that it is tricky. Is it actually warm as it looks or is it just an illusion?

In a small piece of green on the way to the station, some civic-minded person has planted loads of daffodils. Between them and the late blooming crocuses, walking to the station has become a beautiful experience.

Our garden and our neighbor’s gardens have exploded in a riot of color – camellias, daffodils, the seasons first bluebells and the end of the crocuses.

*Speaking of change.. I’m going to be rejigging my site so if you follow in Google Reader or anything else, you are going to have to change your bookmark! The blog is just going to be sydthewyd.com.. no more “real” homepage. I’m going to make the change on Sunday night.

Summer? Is that you?

Summer is so close that I can almost taste it. Summer fruits, Pimm’s cups, ice cream along the Thames and leaving the windows open all day. Good times all around! Today Gavin and I got burritos and ate them in Golden Square. It was glorious. The sun was shining, it was warm and the flowers were beautiful. We were even serenaded by a man with a guitar and amp who was playing and singing. It was great.

Aren’t the flowers great? I love the frilly edged tulips :)
